UTOPIA Washington is more than an organization—it’s a culture-based family and safe space for Pacific Islanders and the LGBTQIA+ community. Since 2009, they’ve worked alongside community leaders to meet basic needs, create pathways for personal and career growth, and advocate for social justice, education, and wellness.

When UTOPIA came to LLYP Studios, their brand wasn’t reflecting the depth of their heritage or the resilience of their mission. Visuals were inconsistent, making it difficult for their community and potential funders to recognize them. They wanted cohesive branding across every platform, a brand that honored their cultural identity, and the tools to drive measurable growth in engagement, website traffic, and donations.

The Challenge

UTOPIA’s previous brand identity lacked cohesion and cultural resonance. Without brand guidelines, their marketing materials and digital presence appeared fragmented. This not only diluted their message but also made it harder to connect with their primary audience—the Pacific Islander LGBTQIA+ community—as well as with corporate donors and allies.

They needed a brand that felt like home: empowering, simple, and memorable, while remaining professional and polished enough to stand out among other advocacy organizations.

Our Approach

Using our R.I.S.E. Method™, we worked closely with the UTOPIA team to:
- Conduct a competitive analysis to identify gaps and opportunities in their sector.
- Design a fresh brand identity rooted in Pacific Islander heritage, with a seashell-inspired logo symbolizing safety, growth, and belonging.
- Develop a bold, culturally inspired color palette featuring fuchsia, sea blue, and warm accents, paired with distinctive typography.
- Create a comprehensive brand guideline system to ensure consistency across platforms.
- Redesign their newsletter for better readability, visual appeal, and click-through rates.
- Provide creative direction for a wide range of branded assets
